If you were alive in the 1980s, you almost certainly saw The Karate Kid in a theatre (and later relived the movie in all its glory on VHS).

The film (and its sequels) followed Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), a New Jersey kid who moved to California with his widowed mother to adjust to single motherhood.

Daniel is saved by Mr. Miyagi, the handyman of his apartment building, from a gang of bullies, led by Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

Daniel is taken under Miyagi's wing and taught karate by him.

In 2018, the YouTube series Cobra Kai gave the film a bit of a reboot, with Macchio and Zabka repeating their roles.

The web series picks up 30 years after the events of the first movie.

Season 4 of Cobra Kai is planned to launch in December, and a fifth season is in the works.

After the season 3 finale's cliffhanger, we're left wondering if Johnny and Daniel will ever be able to put their differences aside, learn to work together, and defeat Kreese (Martin Kove).

We've gone to great lengths to learn everything we can about Cobra Kai season 4 for you.

What is Cobra Kai?

Cobra Kai is a spinoff of the original ’80s Karate Kid movies that takes place in the present day. After the events of Karate Kid III, life moved on for Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, and while life has been kind to Daniel, it hasn’t been to Johnny.

At the beginning of the series, Johnny’s aging, depressed and angry at the world, working one dead-end job after another. He now lives in Reseda, having fallen from his wealthy trappings and away from his verbally abusive and estranged stepfather (played by the late Ed Asner in this series). After saving his teenage neighbor with the karate skills he learned in high school, he finds a renewed interest in the sport and opens up a new Cobra Kai dojo. In doing so, he catches the eye of his old nemesis, Daniel LaRusso, now a successful businessman who owns several car dealerships.

What happened in Cobra Kai season 3?

In season 3 of Cobra Kai, Daniel took a trip to Japan in hopes of reviving his declining car dealership business. While there, he meets up with his old flame, Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) as well as his ex-rival Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto). These old dogs teach each other new karate tricks.

Johnny starts a new dojo, Eagle Fang, and helps Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), who was injured at the end of season 2, regain his strength and stamina hilariously. When Daniel and Johnny become distracted and put their dojos on the back burner, their students find themselves under the tutelage of John Kreese (Martin Cove) with violent results.

In the season 3 finale, both Johnny and Daniel realize they must come together and bury the hatchet if they are to defeat Kreese and his minions.

What can we expect in Cobra Kai season 4?

Season 4 finds the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos joining forces to take down Cobra Kai at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament… and whoever loses must hang up their gi for good. As Samantha (Mary Mouser) and Miguel try to maintain the dojo alliance and Robby (Tanner Buchanan) goes all-in with Kreese at Cobra Kai, the fate of the Valley has never been more precarious. What tricks does Kreese have up his sleeve? Can Daniel and Johnny bury their decades-long hatchet to defeat Kreese? Or will Cobra Kai become the face of karate in the valley?

It is this writer’s theory that Daniel and Johnny will combine their styles of fighting and the melded style will be the one that takes down Kreese and Cobra Kai.

When will season 4 of Cobra Kai premiere?

Season 4 of Cobra Kai will premiere in December though an exact date has not been released.

Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso)

To counter the Cobra Kai's teachings, Daniel founded Miyagi-do, his dojo.

He and his wife own and operate several vehicle dealerships in the San Fernando Valley, though the business has been progressively declining in recent years.

When he was in his early twenties, the supposedly ageless Macchio (who will be 60 by the time season 4 premieres!) took on the role of Daniel LaRusso.

(The Karate Kid was first released in 1984.)

He had a famous role in The Outsiders before that.

Daniel is the name of his real-life son, who is named like his Karate Kid character.

Macchio is also an executive producer on the film.
